It was recently revealed that over one in five Irish people have been or know someone who has been burgled in the last two years alone.
The alarming figure comes from insuremyhouse.ie, who recently surveyed 400 Irish homeowners. The statistics came out just a few weeks after the CSO revealed that burglary and related offences have increased by over 3% from 2016 – 2017, with a total of 19,092 in Ireland last year.
In the same blog post, insuremyhouse.ie mentioned that the European International Crime Survey revealed some more frightening statistics. Ireland ranks 3rd highest per capita in the EU for car thefts and burglaries.
Being broken into is something that we never wish to experience, it can make you feel vulnerable and uncomfortable in your own home. Although home thefts are on the rise in Ireland, it’s important to remember that you can be safe with the right security measures.
First and foremost, it’s important to not entice intruders into your home. A very old alarm box or vulnerable windows and doors could lead to your home becoming a target. Never leave out ladders or have doors/windows unlocked, especially coming up to the summer months.
One of the best ways to protect your home from being singled out is to have a modern house alarm. Here at HomeSecure we specialize in burglary prevention and our aim is that nobody even attempts to gain entry to your home. A monitored alarm is proven to be three times more secure than a non-monitored home.
Last year only 8 of our 11,000 customers had a confirmed break-in and that’s less than one tenth of the national average. This is because burglars will avoid homes that are monitored with a modern, tamper proof system. They'll instead go for a more risk-free option.
In the unlikely event of a break-in, you will receive an immediate response from Chubb, our expert monitoring partners and a guaranteed Garda response, sending the nearest available mobile unit to your home.
