Gardaí appealing for information re: burglary in an elderly couple’s home

Gardaí are appealing for information after an aggravated burglary in an elderly couple’s home in Terenure, Dublin.

The break-in occurred around 10:30am on Wednesday morning and was carried out by three men. It’s unknown yet whether the trio were from a burglary gang. The three men retrained the man and woman, both of whom are in their seventies, after they forced their way into the home.

Thankfully nobody was seriously injured after the burglary. The three men got away in a small white van.

Gardaí are appealing for anyone who may have been on the Templeogue Road area of Terenure on Wednesday morning. Especially if you had a dash-cam on your bike / vehicle or if you remember seeing a small white van.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact Terenure Garda Station on 01 666 6400.

This burglary occurred less than one day after a couple in their eighties in Louth were the victim of an aggressive break-in. This couple were believed to be tied up after two men armed with a knife, hammer and hatchet. The men stole the couple’s car and around €450 in cash.

It’s unclear whether these two events are linked, but it’s important to keep an eye on elderly neighbours and relations in case this trend continues.

For all HomeSecure customers, remember to set your alarm to the Stay Mode, so it is activated even when you’re home. This enables your perimeter sensors, but you can still walk around the home without setting off your alarm.
